The Agricultural Cooperative of Pelion-Northern Sporades was founded in 1952 and is based in M.D. Ano Lechonia of the Municipality of Volos. It is the continuation of E.A.S. Pelion and Northern Sporades after the merger of the primary Agricultural Cooperatives of its members.
It is a mainly export business with the main activity of gathering, processing and trading olives and olive oil (conventional and organic).
Today it counts 2,635 producer-members from the villages of Pelion. Within the framework of the Cooperative, a Group - Organization of Producers has been active for over twenty years in the table olive and olive oil sectors. Its active members in the last two years amount to 635 producers with areas of approximately 30-35 acres on average each.
The Cooperative's facilities include:
• Table olive processing unit, the capacity of which reaches 5,000 tons with state-of-the-art biological cleaning
• Two modern, two-phase, ecological cold press olive mills that produce cold olive oil
• Olive oil warehouses with a capacity of 1,000 tons
• Olive oil factory
• Refrigerator with controlled and conventional atmosphere, with a capacity of 2,500 tons in total for cold storage of fruit (apples, quinces, chestnuts, cherries, plums, peaches, etc.)
• Agricultural supply station
Additionally, at the headquarters are:
• Farmers' service department regarding the receipt of agricultural subsidies and farmer’s VAT refunds.
• Agency department of Insurance Companies, the majority of whose shares are held by Agricultural Cooperative Organizations: COOPERATIVE INSURANCE and ERGO.
The Cooperative has two branches:
• in Argalasti Pelion where the first of the two olive mills is located
• in Glossa, Skopelos island
